Right on cue, just as Saturn reaches its maximum tension in its cycle with Neptune today, the headlines screamed 'Market Meltdown'. This cycle has long been associated with economic collapse and although the term collapse might be too strong in this case, I firmly believe this heralds the start of a turning point in the economy. I was interested, in view of my previous post on this cycle, to see the problems began in China. A 9% drop there triggered the domino effect. Interestingly for all sky watchers, computer glitches also contributed to the fall on the Dow yesterday- Mercury Retrograde in action. Some papers referred today to the fact that the Dow Jones has taken its biggest losses since Sep 11th 2001. This intrigued me as there was only a wide Saturn/Neptune -120- on that date. The attacks have always been blamed solely on the Saturn/Pluto opposition but, the collapse of the Trade Towers also has obvious correspondence with the principles that Saturn and Neptune embody - dissolution of structure, depression, fear and uncertainty in Government policies and the economy.
So, if we look further into this we see that on both occasions Saturn and Neptune were separated by 1-2 degrees in declination - both times being contra-parallel. This means they were/are mirroring each other across the plane of the celestial equator, but this is a long term aspect and a less than one degree orb in declination would be more acceptable.
If we continue to root around further, specifically in the heliocentric charts (i.e.,Sun centered) interestingly we find Saturn in extremely close trine (0 degrees 46 mins) to Neptune on Sep 11th 2001. Additionally, both planets form a t-square with Venus at the present time, (heliocentrically) and this is perfect symbolism of today's economic woes. SA opp NE sq VE.

In astrology the received wisdom is that you either use one system, Geocentric, or the other, Heliocentric. Both have validity but switching around between the two is frowned upon, probably because it leaves us wide open to the 'If you look hard enough, you'll find it somewhere' criticism but also because it upends the whole foundation of traditional astrological thought - that of the planets seen against the apparent path of the Sun, the ecliptic, divided into 12 equal divisions of 30 degrees and not the other way around i.e. apparent revolution of the Earth.
However, as we all become increasingly aware of the multilayered nature of our Universe (See string theory for example) can we really dismiss these symbolic celestial 'coincidences'.
I'm not suggesting that one method supersedes the other but could it be that we should use the two in tandem? I don't know the answers but, to paraphrase Arthur C Clarke, I sure enjoy asking the questions and I find that looking at heliocentric data often fills in the gaps that geocentric data can't. When looking at a person's birthchart for example, I often look at the heliocentric chart and find it reveals another layer of the personality- something that may be hidden on first look at the geo natal chart. Maybe it only reveals something to me because I believe it does and my Universe is ordering itself around my beliefs - as I say I don't claim to have the answers but I urge any astrologers to try it out.
If we look at the helio chart for the economic crash of 1929, (see headlines and chart above) lo and behold Saturn was in exact trine to Neptune which was conjunct Venus, so the 3 main players in the correspondence to 'economic collapse' were in tight association or resonance. In the geo chart Saturn and Neptune were separated by over 6 degrees in an out of sign trine aspect.
The other major meltdown occurred on Black Monday 1987. Neptune was 18 degrees + from it's conjunction with Saturn and in no known aspect, either heliocentrically or geocentrically but the two planets were linked by less than one degree in declination ( you obviously can't have declination with the helio system) forming a parallel. Venus was conjoined with Pluto.
In being able to note, albeit retrospectively, that the planets which correspond to an event were in close resonance in some astrological system is it just making for a whole lot of confusion and clutching at straws; or am I noticing that the linkage of two planets in any system i.e. helio, geo or declinations will have a terrestrial correspondence? If so then perhaps it's time to ditch zodiac signs and focus purely on harmonic relationships by astronomical measurement, for a planet cannot be in two zodiac signs simultaneously e.g., from our perspective Venus is currently in Aries but if I was on the Sun it's in Taurus.
I believe it all comes down, again, to number patterns. Yes aspects may carry zodiacal symbolism, as in the conjunctions may have the quality of Aries but only because they correlate to the number one and all its associations with the Monad. It's the seperation between bodies or us and it that matters our spatial relationship.
As Saturn is currently retrograde there will be one final opposition in this cycle occurring between the two planets on 25 June 2007. In a Sun based system though we cannot have retrogradation and so the Saturn/Neptune opposition has already passed and, although they are still closely opposed, they are moving further apart every day.
On 25 June 2007 helio Saturn will be saying a close hello to Pluto and Mercury but it is several days prior to this, mainly the 19 June 2007, that I would mark in the calendar for the next major glimpse of this unfolding tapestry. (economic and all other correspondences). For then, just as Saturn and Neptune come in for their final geocentric face off, the alignments of these other cycles, mainly helio Mars -0- Uranus, Venus -90- Saturn andMercury-0- Pluto could be the fusewire that trips the whole shebang. It's just a matter of altering our perspective and looking at things in more than one dimension - rather like a 3D film.
Traditional astrologers may be aghast at the very thought of opening up to any other reality than the current astrological paradigm of a geocentric system but, as we request the scientific field to be more open, perhaps we should all become more amenable to a wider picture too. If life is ever discovered in the outer reaches of the Cosmos aren't they entitled to a horoscope too ;-) I cannot see what explains these celestial coincidences but if you have any ideas or observations on the 'helio versus geo' debate please let me know.
