Snow is lovely to look at when it first falls but, for those who get the white stuff all the time, it is rarely a talking point. The same with cold temperatures. This year however record snowfalls and below-the-norm temperatures in the Northern Hemisphere are leaving even the most seasoned winterers, wide-eyed.Temperatures of -22C have left 122 dead in Poland, while in central Norway temperatures plummeted to -41C on Wednesday. In the Swiss Alps avalanches have killed at least seven people, parts of the USA are feeling unseasonally cold and the UK is in the grip of the longest cold snap for 29 years. Many are housebound due to icy conditions outside.
Is there a correlation between harsh conditions and planetary alignments or cycles. You bet there is!The Met Office tells us that the average mean (UK) temperature for last month was the lowest since 1981, which had the coldest December on record. Whenever astrologers hear mention of a time span of '29 years', we know the words testing, hard, restricted or difficult will probably be somewhere in the same conversation. This is because these are words we know correlate to the planet Saturn, which has a periodicity of approx 29 years. (Saturn's orbital period around the Sun is 29.42 years) In 1981 Saturn was in the sign of Libra -where it is now - and in December 1981 ( that cold, snowy winter) it started to edge towards a conjunction with Pluto. These two planets, Saturn and Pluto, are currently moving towards another important phase of that early '80's cycle on 31st January.
While Saturn returning to the sign it was in back then gives a strong indication of a recurrence of similar circumstances now, the proximity to another harmonic alignment in its cycle with Pluto (this one is 270 degrees, a closing square) means that extreme conditions, where survival often becomes an issue, are also to be ( re) expected.
Now if you are in the Southern hemisphere you may already be thinking, well that's a load of tosh because down here it's summer! However the same warning applies - this time in mirror image. (remember everything has a polarity) Cape Town in South Africa, for example, is seeing record highs in their temperatures and other countries are suffering extreme conditions.
Unfortunately, astrologers get a bad rap when it comes to pointing out things like this because the skeptics are quick to point out that there have, of course, been many other dates of record lows and highs - they didn't all just occur at once 29 years ago. BUT it's a question of looking at the different cycles, such as the Saturn/Uranus or the Saturn /Jupiter and a myriad of others, plus the lunation cycle, sun spot activity and other heavenly events. This weather pattern is predominantly correlating to the Saturn cycle but a confluence of other factors can link it to the 196o's and earlier dates (etc)
One thing is absolutely sure though, and this is why so many sane, intelligent people do get brought around to 'believing in astrology' once they have studied it........ The planetary activity above correlates to events below on Earth - without doubt.
So, as in late 1981 there were extreme temperatures, it may be of interest to know these will persist, whichever side of the globe you are on, until the aspect has perfected at the end of January plus a week or so the other side. The overall feeling is one of conditions in which one feels tested in some way. In the shorter term some countries will feel a let-up after the next eclipse and the forward motion of a currently retrograde Mercury i.e. by the 15/16th Jan. Where the snow has paralysed countries, states and counties, most schools will reopen next week and transport should get moving again when Mercury picks up speed. With Mars still in reverse until mid March though I'm not saying there will be no more problems, just that the harshest of them should subside with the Saturn/Pluto at the end of January.
Many are latching onto current weather conditions and citing it as further evidence of Global warming. Agree with them if you like but you'll only hear me saying in a weary voice, "No, it's cyclical"! I think we should address pollution and other ecological issues but the weather is beyond control.

Snow is the perfect reminder that, just as small shift in temps can turn moisture into a tangible form, so can the correct shift in your energy bring the things you imagine to visible manifestation. It's called transmutation - the changing of form.

This weather in the Northern hemisphere also somewhat mirrors the economic outlook - very bleak. Unfortunately shops are going to have low takings due to a lack of customers. Businesses will suffer due to the employees not being able to make it to the office, or parents not being able to organise childcare for this period. Distribution across Europe is affected, so many perishable goods, although being naturally kept 'on ice' will be unsaleable and have to be trashed. Many flights are cancelled, causing further problems for BA, other airlines and Heathrow this week ( see previous post - which highlights how you can see a problem ensuing but never tell where the 'threat' is coming from; terror or weather) Also the de-icing process is costly and time consuming, so on top of staff shortages, with many not able to get to work to crew the aircraft; all these delays significantly increase the debt burden of airlines.
The only winners are the oil, gas and salt industries. (BTW, there was no salt to be found anywhere in my town but a bit of lateral thinking helped me and may help you - Dishwasher salt and cat litter, both do the same trick!)
Anyway keep warm or cool depending on your location and try and scroll back to read my article on the upcoming January eclipse. Written in November, the astrology accurately pinpointed Yemen as being a country that would rise to the headlines in this period!
